Sunday

This past Sunday was a proper Sunday. When you work, Saturday is usually a catch-up day. You know – you catch up on the laundry, the vacuuming, the shopping… I don’t work any more but Dale does, so our Saturdays are usually catch-up days with and for him. However, Sunday should be a lazy, happy day and this past Sunday was.

Dale got up early, as he always does. When I got up at the crack of nine, I made a Sunday breakfast. While I make a mean eggs Benny and awesome pancakes, I decided to make scrambled eggs with onions and mushrooms. We had toasted whole wheat French bread (so good!) and tea along with the eggs. We sat on the couch, eating breakfast and watching a rom-com, “Rumor Has It”. I had seen it before but Dale hadn’t. It was very pleasant, cuddling on the couch in our jammies with the sun shining on us through the window. Once the movie was over we got up from the couch and did our (late) morning chores.

Dale headed to Home Depot while I cleaned up the breakfast dishes, then I showered and got ready. When he got back we hung two of the stained glass pieces we have. Since we can’t hang them in the windows (strata rules), we decided to made them look like faux windows on either side of the fireplace. We were happy with the look.  After that we headed out to do a few shopping chores and then I got ready to have Darin and Devon over for dinner. I made caprese panzanella salad, smashed, baked red potatoes and roasted lemons, cauliflower and broccoli. Dale barbecued rib eye steaks. For dessert we had my signature mini fruit pavlovas.

After dinner we played a game that Devon brought, Wits and Wagers. It was a lot of fun. Did you know that 72% of Americans believe that aliens have visited Earth and that there are over 200 toxic waste dumps in New Jersey? Those are the only statistics I remembered. It was fun to try to figure things out and to see what other people thought about them. Some of our answers were way off!

The kids left about 9:00 and we did a quick clean-up. Then we sat down to watch Outlander and Game of Thrones. Thank goodness for PVRs! By the end of the shows, I had the dishes done. By the time I had finished my bath, Dale  was cuddled up in bed, fast asleep. I slid in beside him and was soon asleep as well.

I think this will be the template for all other Sundays to follow. There may be some minor changes; there might be a bike ride instead of hanging stained glass,  a trip to the Farmer’s Market instead of shopping and dinner might be at another house. But however we do it, spending a lazy Sunday with family is a joy, and one we hope to repeat many, many times.
